When I first started my practice in 2008, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.
So I struggled, really struggled
- I was working crazy hours thinking I had to trade my time for money.
- I was undercutting to win work because that’s what I thought you had to do.
- I was micro-managing and controlling over client relationships which led to high staff turnover and poor client service.
I started my firm to give me time and financial freedom. To be able to take off the holidays, travel the world with our 4 kids.
The reality was far from it. My wife was raising the kids single-handedly. I was working long hours in the office but earning less than I did as an employee at PwC.
Something had to change
My transformation started when I attended an unexpected webinar on pricing back in 2014.
I realised I didn’t know what I didn’t know. And that I had to invest in myself to be a better business owner to do the best for my clients, my team and ultimately my family.
So I joined a mentoring programme to learn from someone who had trodden the path before me
I started to read business books, listen to podcasts, attend online courses from experts in marketing, sales, leadership and pricing.
I slowly started to implement what I was learning and began to see results. So I implemented more and got bigger and better results.
And within 24 months went from struggling, frustrated and chasing clients for invoices to £500 - £1,000 to winning a one off fee of £135,000 and taking our firm to nearly a £1million in revenue with just 7 people - and best of all, doing this whilst working less than 10 hours a week in the practice.
