Learn Any Skill

learning from others mistakes skills Feb 28, 2023

Have you ever felt hesitant to try something new because you were worried about what others might think? Maybe you were afraid of not being perfect, or maybe you were unsure of how to start. We all have experienced this at some point in our lives. But what if I told you that the key to success is not being perfect, but rather taking action and consistently improving over time?

In 2019, I decided to record my first video. I perched my iPhone against some books on my study shelf, pressed record, and started talking. I rambled a lot, spoke very fast, and there were lots of umms and aaahs. I looked at the video and thought, "Should I post it or not? What would people think? I sounded terrible, the lighting was awful, and the background was a mess." But then I thought, "What's the worst that could happen? No one watches, no one likes. Is that the end of the world?" Clearly not.

Despite my fears and doubts, I decided to post the video anyway. And the more I did, the more I learned. Each video got 1% better, and I realized that perfection is an unachievable target. The key is to start, get the reps in, and once you've built some muscle, then you can focus on improving.

At the beginning, it's all about quantity over quality. You don't have to be great to start, but you'll need to start to be great. The more you do something, the better you'll become. And remember, there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. Learn from your mistakes, and keep moving forward.

So, what are you waiting for? Hold yourself accountable, and take action towards your goals. Don't be afraid to try something new, even if you're not perfect. Start today, and remember to focus on progress, not perfection.

If you're struggling to take the first step, remember that you're not alone. Everyone has fears and doubts, but it's important to overcome them and take action anyway. And if you need some encouragement, feel free to tag me in your next video. I'll be sure to add a comment to give you the encouragement you need to keep going.
